Always the lion, always Van Gogh, two icons common in the creative mind of artists and lovers of life. Both characters inspire a bigger picture and for me this is true too. To emphasis my point the background of the painting is Vincent's 'Starry night' a painting as iconic as both the aforementioned characters. Further to that I look to my Dutch heritage and the tradition of Delft blue scenes of landscapes painted on ceramic items like household utilities, crockery, cookery containers and wall tiles in the Dutch context of colonial exploration and simple aesthetic values.

I'm a tutor. At least once a week I sit in that chair and explain the processes and techniques involved in making a painting. I'd confident I know what makes good painting. I also know that nothing in our world is perfect so I don't excuse any aberration though I'm happy to discuss a reality where perfection is a worthy ideal to strive for.
